Barbara M. Thorpe
Alumna - Albuquerque, New Mexico
Barbara practices obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health. After her children were grown, she wanted to go back to school. The integrity of University of Phoenix’s advanced nursing program demanded that Barbara work hard. Barbara says, “My two University of Phoenix degrees have enhanced my effectiveness as a leader, advanced nurse practitioner, mentor, researcher and University of Phoenix faculty. They have given me the confidence to conduct personal research, hold seminars and to be internationally published.” Barbara is delighted to be paying forward the same opportunities to her co-worker.

Recipient - Bosque Farms, New Mexico
Vickie works in the operating room as an education resource nurse and staff nurse. She has quietly volunteered in Albuquerque’s barrios on her days off. She recently completed a BSN degree at University of Phoenix, where she and Barbara met as classmates. Vickie plans to expand her skills as a diabetes educator and would like to teach nursing at University of Phoenix someday. She will continue to practice nursing and will “pass the torch” to others with humility and pride. Continuation of her formal education would not be possible without the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship.
