Paying it Forward - 2006 Profiles
Susan Gillim
Alumna - Noblesville, Indiana
Susan chose University of Phoenix because of the variety of class delivery styles. With ground, FlexNet®, directed study, and online, she knew that she could succeed in completing her bachelor’s degree while traveling for her job. Then Susan found that University of Phoenix offered the structure she needed, too. She earned her graduate degree in only one year with a 4.0 GPA. Her University of Phoenix education boosted her confidence level and is affording Susan opportunities she never thought possible. For example, she is paying forward a chance to earn a bachelor’s degree to her niece, Jasmine.
Jasmine Leonard
Recipient - Indianapolis, Indiana
Jasmine earned an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force during her service and continued studies at the University of Maryland University College, though was not able to complete her communications degree. Now, she works full-time as a contracting analyst at Ernst & Young while caring for her seven-year-old daughter. Jasmine is engaged to get married, and soon her family will include two more children. Coupled with her military background, the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship will enable Jasmine to earn a criminal justice degree so she can pursue her ultimate goal: a position supporting homeland security.
