Paying it Forward - 2007 Profiles

Deborah Peters

Alumna - Murray, Utah

Deborah always knew she was an entrepreneur. It just took her a while to get to that point in her life. She looked into colleges that provided her with a quality, accredited degree in business. She needed a class schedule that fit around her family duties and job schedule. University of Phoenix had both those elements and she was able to attend classes in an adult learning environment. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and then went on to receive her MBA. Her education at University of Phoenix provided her with the skills necessary to start her own business. She now owns her own medical billing company and a real estate development company. When Deborah enrolled at University of Phoenix, she had tuition assistance from her employer. Now, Deborah is in a position to offer tuition assistance to an employee of her own. Deborah’s education at University of Phoenix changed her life. She feels very fortunate to be able to guide her employee and friend through her own life-changing experience.

Michelle Anderson

Recipient - Riverton, Utah

Michelle has a natural ability to help the people around her. Deciding on a career was an easy decision for her to make. She has an associate’s degree in nursing from a Utah community college. She has worked as a registered nurse and is currently a nurse's aide for a medical billing company. Michelle knows that she has more within her that she can offer her field and the people around her. To accomplish her goal of working in nurse management, she would like to go back to school to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing. The one element that has stood in the way of her goal is her financial constraints. Now with the Paying it Forward℠ Scholarship Program, Michelle is looking forward to bettering herself, her family and the health care system.
