Paying it Forward - 2007 Profiles

Frank Quiming

Alumnus - Sacramento, California

After Frank lost his job as a system analyst for Intel, his wife Pamela encouraged him to pursue a college degree. Frank enrolled at University of Phoenix in 2003, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology. Through a learning team at the University, Frank met two students who would become his lifelong friends — and learned valuable skills that have significantly furthered his career. Frank is now an independent technical consultant and manages projects for a variety of clients. He has seen a substantial increase in his salary, and can now provide a much better life for his wife and two sons. Frank will encourage both of his children to pursue higher education after high school. He is also considering taking his education a step further by enrolling in a master’s degree program. Frank is excited to award his wife of more than 23 years with the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship Program so she can finally earn her college degree.

Pamela Quiming

Recipient - Sacramento, California

Pamela enrolled in college soon after marrying her husband, Frank. Due to financial and family demands, Pamela was forced to drop out of school before completing her degree. In addition to parenting her sons full-time, Pamela cares for her mother and runs a successful Pampered Chef business from home. Pamela is passionate about training other employees and growing her business, but feels the lack of a college degree holds her back from taking these steps. Through the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship Program, Pamela will finally complete her college degree when she earns a bachelor’s degree in business through University of Phoenix.
