Gwyn G.
Alumna
Gwyn credits her University of Phoenix education for challenging her to remain engaged in lifelong learning. University of Phoenix provided her with the structure and forward thinking required for selection to several coveted military positions, such as supporting the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President of the United States. Enrolling in the MBA program helped with Gwyn’s transition to civilian life. She is honored to nominate her nephew Lyron for a Paying it Forward® scholarship in recognition of his resilience and desire to succeed against multiple life challenges.
Lyron W.
Recipient – Lakeridge, VA
Lyron was a young single father to a son born addicted to drugs. At a time when Lyron should have been focusing on his educational and personal development, he was focused on helping his son face multiple obstacles. Instead of letting his past define him, Lyron took this opportunity to encourage and empower himself. As a natural leader, Lyron is a mentor to others and is always willing to lend a helping hand. The Paying it Forward Scholarship will allow Lyron to gain the knowledge necessary to work as a systems security professional. His goal is to work for the CIA, protecting network enterprises from malicious viruses and hackers.
