Frances H.

Institutional Scholarship Recipient

Major: Community Counseling
Campus: Phoenix
Anticipated Graduation Date: 2012
Hometown: Glendale, AZ

Frances received her full-tuition scholarship through Kids’ Chance of Arizona, an organization that provides need-based scholarships to children of injured or deceased parents who were the victims of serious work-related accidents. Kids’ Chance and University of Phoenix have teamed up to create the Kids' Chance Scholarship program to help give deserving individuals the opportunity to receive an education and thus, prepare themselves for a better future.

Frances will be earning her Master of Science in Community Counseling degree at the Phoenix campus. “Kids’ Chance and University of Phoenix came to my financial rescue and took the burden of worrying about tuition off of my shoulders so that I could re-enter college with excitement and put all the focus on my education,” she says. Frances starts class in late October and has been watching the University’s videos and preparing for her first day. She can’t wait to be a Phoenix!

Frances also has words of encouragement for other prospective students, “I would encourage other students not to give up on their education, or any other dreams, even though there might be obstacles. In fact, I encourage them all to fight even harder when obstacles stand in their way, because the more difficult the journey, the more rewarding the accomplishment will be. And to all the students who, like me, have received generous financial aid, from whatever source, BE VERY THANKFUL!! This is not an opportunity that comes around everyday, so don’t take it for granted, and show your appreciation in the best way possible: Finish what you started! Then start giving back…”
