Scholarship: Activated Ministries recognizes stellar service through scholarship

Activated Ministries offers scholarships to current and former missionaries and their children. Their goal is to assist those who have served on the mission field as they either pursue their new career goals or acquire skills to complement their missionary work. Kenya applied for the scholarship after she served as a missionary in Africa. “In 2010, I traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to do missionary volunteer work in orphanages, schools and communities impacted by HIV. The experience was a dream come true that forever changed my life,” she shares.

To apply for the scholarship, she completed a 1,000-word essay describing how her missionary service and experience shaped and impacted her life. She also had to obtain a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, teacher, coach or adult who was not an immediate relative.

Kenya is thankful for the scholarship and the peace of mind it offers. “Considering that most doctoral programs are self-funded, I am grateful and blessed to receive financial assistance from the Activated Ministries program. This scholarship will help to pay for my educational expenses and give me a peace of mind on my journey to graduation,” she explains.

After graduation she would like to be a professor and grow her International Volunteers of Conservation organization, which was inspired by her service abroad.
