Robert holds a deep love of learning and is a very busy professional. In 1990, Robert was honorably discharged from the US Navy and began down his career path. He started travelling as much as 40 weeks per year which made it impossible to complete his education at a time when online learning was a new idea. His career was prospering but he soon found completing his education essential to future success, “My career ultimately matured to the point where my professional network was strong enough to moderate the liability of not having a college degree. However, after taking a sabbatical I found that not having a degree was a significant liability as I attempted to re-enter the job market.”

Today Robert and his wife manage their own environmental consulting firm that demands a heavy work load. Robert turned to University of Phoenix because the flexible online learning option allows him to meet the needs of their employees and clients scattered throughout Alaska and the West. He says, “It is a pleasure to be able to log in and devote all my time to my coursework and not have to search around for information or fumble around with a difficult or unfriendly user-interface.”

Upon completing his degree, Robert wants to help grow their firm to even greater heights, “Our objective is to continue to grow the company in a responsible manner. Much of the reason I am completing my degree in finance is to aid in achieving this objective.” Robert also sits on the board of an education charity based out of Namibia which he hopes to help steer through the difficult period small non-governmental organizations are facing. He also needs to earn his degree for pragmatic reasons. He says, “Completing my degree closes the obvious gap in my resume and allows me to take full advantage of my other experiences.”
