Tammy has made a career out of taking care of others. She is a mom to seven children including three foster children. Tammy encourages all of her children to go to college and wants to be a positive example in their lives by completing her own degree. She says, “It is important for them to know that it is never too late to turn their lives around.”
Going to college and earning her diploma is one of Tammy’s life-long goals. It will give her personal satisfaction in knowing she did it and it will also bring her family financial stability. With her degree in human services she is going to bring a new element of expertise to her lifelong passion–foster care. Tammy wants to become a case manager for teens in foster homes and be an encouraging and respected voice for their care. She wants to “give them hope in what seems like a hopeless situation.”
University of Phoenix has been a great fit for Tammy’s life. It is not practical or ideal for Tammy to attend class on campus with seven children to care for at home. She is able to attend class online and “go to school” when it is convenient for her family. Her compassion is contagious and her devotion to others is admirable. She lives by the mantra, “You may only be one person in this world. But to one person, you may just be their world.” There is no doubt that Tammy will make a difference in many lives.
