The RSM McGladrey-FEI Academic Excellence Awards support Arizona university students specializing in accounting and/or finance. Tanya learned about the scholarship, knew she was an excellent candidate, and had to apply.
Tanya primarily pays for her education through student loans, so this scholarship has made a difference especially in the current economy. The scholarship was a lifeline in helping her cut some costs and maintain a focus on her studies and family life.
Tanya and her husband attend class together online. In 2009, she decided to finish her degree and she has never looked back. Even working full time, running her own business and raising young children have not deterred her from completing her degree. After her kids go to bed at night, Tanya and her husband sit down at their computers and go to school. She says, “Sure, it's hard sometimes, but I always keep in mind that I would rather have a full life than an empty one. It’s exciting to learn concepts in class that I can apply on the job right away, and I know my work life and my abilities have already benefited from my classes.”
Tanya says she will continue to search for scholarship opportunities and urges others to apply as well. She advises the essay is the most important part of the application and encourages students to “write one that shines!”
