Maria E.
Master of Science in Nursing/Nursing and Health Care Education
Chandler, Ariz.
Maria was awarded one of two nursing scholarships by University of Phoenix and the March of Dimes Arizona Chapter this past August. March of Dimes was founded in 1938 to fight polio and has since lent its efforts to fighting birth defects and prematurity. Through the March of Dimes Arizona Chapter Nursing Scholarship, the University awarded two full-tuition scholarships to nurses pursuing advanced degrees.
Maria is currently an RN clinical nurse educator for her hospital’s surgical service line. Through this scholarship opportunity, Maria will be earning her Master of Science in Nursing/Nursing and Health Care Education. “While I have many of the pieces needed to be a good educator, I feel that an MSN/ED is essential for my professional development and the professional development of the employees that I serve,” shares Maria. “At University of Phoenix I would be able to achieve my goal of an MSN/ED in the manner befitting a full-time employed adult learner, so I can continue serving as an RN clinical educator while I complete my degree.”
Before her career as a nurse, Maria earned her bachelor’s degree in English and worked as a writer for 11 years. “With the same tenacity that allowed me to be a successful writer, I gained entrance to nursing school, completed an accelerated BSN program and graduated as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society.”
Maria is a respected and well-liked employee at her hospital. She has twice received an award for service. She goes above and beyond to serve her hospital and community in addition to her regular duties. The MSN/ED degree will complement Maria’s experience and passion for health care education. She believes “knowledge is to be shared.”
