Things to know before you go


There is no parking fee at the Rosemont Theatre but parking is limited to 400 stalls. Later arrivals may have to pay to park in nearby garages or lots. Free parking is also available at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago. Additional parking is available at the Parkway Bank Park Entertainment District for $15 (free with validation from a store or restaurant inside the center).


Graduates should enter through the VIP entrance on the south side of the theatre. It is near the entrance to the parking lot, just behind the attendant booth.

Guests should enter through the front of the theatre, which is the east side along River Road.

Students and guests who are unable to navigate stairs should enter through the south side, just to the right of the VIP student entrance.

Graduate check-in

Please pick up your name index card at the tables located inside the VIP entrance on the south side of the theater when checking in for the ceremony. The index card shows a bar code with your name and degree.

Personal belongings

There is no storage at the commencement venue for personal belongings. Please make arrangements for a guest to hold any personal items or carry them with you at all times. University of Phoenix is not responsible for any damage or loss to personal property.

Regalia items to bring

Please bring your cap and gown, as well as your stole (undergraduate students) and/or hood (graduate students). Staff will assist you in arranging your hood before the ceremony. Use a cool iron if necessary to ensure a wrinkle-free appearance. For any special regalia needs or for pickup arrangements, Herff Jones accepts cash or card.

Military graduates: Remember to bring your cord to the ceremony. The military cord is available to order on the regalia web site but will also be available on the day of the ceremony.

Honor cord eligibility

  • You must be a bachelor’s degree student with a program GPA of 3.85 or higher. The University does not have an honors designation for associate, masters or doctoral students.
  • If you have met the University Honors requirements, by the commencement ceremony date, and have met all other eligibility criteria, will be recognized at commencement ceremonies with the University honor cord.  Students who attend commencement ceremonies and wear the University honor cord before degree conferral are not guaranteed the “Graduated with Honors” designation. Academic standards must be met in order for a “Graduated with Honors” degree to be awarded. Students may fail to meet the University Honors standards after attending commencement ceremonies.  

Honor Cord distribution

The University identifies graduates registered for the commencement who are eligible for the honor cord. If you are eligible to receive an honor cord one will be provided to you at no cost on the day of commencement.

ADA Accommodations

If you or any of your guests will require ADA accommodations at the Chicago Commencement Ceremony, please contact the Chicago Commencement team at Wheelchairs are not available, so please plan accordingly. There will be several accessible seating areas.


No strollers, balloons, confetti, noisemakers, food or drinks are allowed in the commencement venue. Unopened bottled water is acceptable.


The University has coordinated with Central Valley Photography to photograph graduates before and during the ceremony.


Following the ceremony, please join us for a special Commencement Reception in the theatre lobby to celebrate your big day. RSVP is not required, and your guests are welcome to attend.
