Course level: Upper Division
This course focuses on the pedagogy and assessment strategies that enhance student learning of Hawaiian studies. Instructional approaches for the Hawaiian Studies content area within the framework of an integrated curriculum are explored, including the use of critical thinking and study skills. Methods for integrating Hawaiian history, cultural values, and Hawaiian heritage are emphasized. This course provides students with an opportunity to develop the ability to create performance-based activities and assessments, culturally-sensitive instructional methods, curricular materials and resources, and appropriate assessment strategies. Students develop a variety of data-collection tools designed to assess student learning.
