Course level: Undergraduate

This course introduces students to tools and techniques needed to present data, both simple and complex, to gain support and recommend business decisions. Student will use graphical tools such as graphs, animation, and presentation techniques to communicate the message behind the data and improve decision making. Topics include requirement gathering, graphical representation of data sets, visualization techniques and tools, and data validation.

Week 2

  • Interpret visualization graphics for management decisions.

  • Explain how visualization designers and professionals add value to data analytics.

Week 3

  • Interpret information from dashboards for use in strategic storytelling.
  • Make decisions using visualization graphics that combines data from various sources.
  • Compare dashboard architecture options.

Week 4

  • Create a dashboard with combined graphics in order to communicate a strategy.
  • Evaluate story elements of a case study.
  • Identify best practices in the use of animation.

Week 5

  • Visualize an applied case study in order to analyze a specific industry.
  • Create a storyboard supporting a visualization strategy.
  • Demonstrate methods used to effectively visualize story elements.
