    • Analyze the development of the CCP in China, and the rise of Mao Zedong.
    • Explain how China’s relations with Japan from the 1920s through the 1940s led to CCP rule.
    • Describe the role of Chiang Kai-shek and his significance in the Republican period.

    A New China: The Peopleâ s Republic of China

    • Evaluate the relationship between the Guomindang and the CCP and its influence on China from 1944 to 1949.
    • Describe the changes that took place following the 1949 Communist takeover of China.
    • Analyze challenges and problems the CCP faced during the early years of the People’s Republic of China.

    The Cultural Revolution and a Changing Peopleâ s Republic

    • Describe the influence and effects of China’s Cultural Revolution.
    • Evaluate the influence of Mao Zedong’s death on the CCP and China.
    • Analyze the economic and social developments that led to China’s significant role in the global community.

    Historical China and the End of Dynastic Rule
