Research Constructs And Design
This course requires learners to synthesize the cumulative knowledge gained from the previous research courses to finalize and submit their dissertation concept paper for final review and evaluation. Learners select one of two previously drafted concept papers and expand the concept paper to include clear justification of the research method and design; the theoretical or conceptual framework for the study; definitions of terms and phrases critical to the study, including assumptions inherent in the proposed research; and issues related to internal and external validity.
The concept paper is the first the first of six deliverables associated with the doctoral dissertation. The concept paper is a well-developed, high-level overview of key components of the proposed doctoral dissertation research. The paper includes many components in the first chapter of the dissertation proposal. The paper includes a well-developed problem, including purpose and research questions, a compelling explanation of what the study contributes to knowledge, and an initial discussion of the relevant scholarship that delineates and contextualizes the proposed study, which corresponds to the first three subdomains of the scale. The paper must meet the empirical, applied, theoretical, and methodological contributions expected for PhD learners.
