Five Arizona residents to be awarded full-tuition scholarships to University of Phoenix

PHOENIX, June 23, 2016 — Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman, is once again partnering with University of Phoenix to offer five full-tuition scholarships to deserving individuals in Arizona in 2016. Goldschmidt is available to answer questions about the scholarship Tuesday, June 28, at 1:45 p.m. in the Press Interview Room at Chase Field.

The “Teaming Up For Education” scholarship program is the result of a partnership between University of Phoenix and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, and has made college education a reality for 17 Arizona residents since 2011. Of the scholarship recipients, seven have already received degrees from University of Phoenix while the others continue to pursue their education goals. Goldschmidt attended University of Phoenix while playing for the D-backs and received a Bachelor of Science in Management in 2013. This is his third year of being involved with the University’s scholarship program.

“Education is one of the most important tools we have for strengthening a community,” said Goldschmidt. “As a proud alumnus, I am excited to be working with University of Phoenix in our shared passions of giving back to Arizona and making the benefits of higher education a reality.”

University of Phoenix has a long history of working with athletes, professional teams and athletic foundations who share a commitment to higher education. Last year, Goldschmidt and University of Phoenix expanded the scholarship program, increasing the number of scholarships from three to five. Goldschmidt, along with his wife Amy, will select the five 2016 recipients and present them with their awards at the D-backs game versus the San Diego Padres on Sept. 30, 2016.

“Paul is a great example of the success of our alumni and the impact they make in their communities,” said Timothy P. Slottow, president of University of Phoenix. “Our alumni live with purpose and overcome adversity in pursuit of their goals and we are grateful to see more rise to the challenge and realize their potential.”

“The D-backs believe that everyone should have the opportunity to receive an advanced education, and we are proud that Paul and Amy have stepped up to the plate to ensure that five recipients will be able to continue their education with our partners at University of Phoenix,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. “Paul worked very hard to receive his degree from University of Phoenix, while also having a record season with the D-backs, and we look forward to seeing the success these recipients will have in the classroom.”

Applications for the scholarship are being accepted now through July 31, 2016, at phoenix.edu/dbacks. For more information about all University of Phoenix scholarship opportunities, including scholarship requirements, visit www.phoenix.edu/scholarships.
