This course examines both the principle topics in the field of cybercrime investigation as well as the examination of the varying issues regarding the futures within the field of technology-facilitated crime. Students will focus on relevant exploration of technology crimes that reflect key fundamentals of current conditions and what may be expected in technology and cybercrime in the years to come. Students will apply critical review of current technological crimes and engage in in-depth discussions of these concepts as a basis for comprehensive understanding at the local and global levels of cybercrime investigation and prevention.

  • Identify past, present, and future trends pertaining to the continuing development and operation of the field of policing as it relates to cybercrime investigations.
  • Describe the organizational management, administration, and operational aspects of policing as they relate to cybercrime investigations.
  • Compare the perspectives of the forensic investigative techniques from the local, state, and federal organizational levels.
  • Identify possible future changes in laws and the impact on the field of cybercrime investigations.

  • Identify the current and future issues facing courts relating to the prosecution of cyber criminals.
  • Articulate court purposes and responsibilities and the importance of strategic planning and vision as foundations of successful court management.
  • Identify future management issues and trends regarding language interpretation services.
  • Assess the past, present, and future impact that victim rights laws have on court proceedings as they specifically related to technology crimes.

  • Identify the current and future issues relating to computer investigations for digital investigators.
  • Explain the operation of forensic science and various computer systems.
  • Explain the Issue of computer intrusions and its relation to cyber stalking.

  • Identify major cyber and high tech crimes and criminal issues that have a global impact on justice systems and processes.
  • Compare and contrast international criminal justice responses to cyber-crimes, including Internet crimes against children.
  • Analyze the impact of technology facilitated crime on worldwide justice systems.
