Course level: Undergraduate

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, build, and maintain routing and switching technologies. Students learn routing and switching operations, including implementing inter-VLANs routing, implementing and troubleshooting routing protocols and introduce IPv6 main features, addresses, and basic configuration. Advanced IP services are described, such as applying and troubleshooting Access Control Lists (ACLs), and managing IP address space using Network Address Translation (NAT), and Port Address Translation (PAT).

  • Configure and verify initial Cisco® router configuration using the Command Line Interface (CLI).
  • Configure static and default routing on Cisco® devices.
  • Compare the features and operations of dynamic routing protocols to statics routing protocols.

  • Configure and verify a dynamic routing protocol on Cisco® devices.
  • Utilize Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) on a Cisco® router.
  • Determine the IPv4 addressing scheme using VLSM and summarization to satisfy addressing requirements in a LAN/WAN environment.
  • Examine IP addressing and host configurations issues and troubleshooting tools.

  • Describe the operation of ACLs and their applications in the network.
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot ACLs on Cisco® devices.
  • Distinguish the basic operation of NAT and Port Address Translation (PAT).
  • Configure and verify NAT and PAT on Cisco® devices.
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot inter-VLAN routing.

  • Describe how network devices can be managed and monitored.
  • Practice secure network device hardening according to Cisco® standards, including configuration, verification, and identification of troubleshooting tools.
  • Describe how to manage IOS licenses.

  • Describe IPv6 main features, addresses, and basic configuration.
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot IPv6 static routing on Cisco® devices.
  • Detail the options for running IPv6 in conjunction with IPv4, such as dual stack.
