This course covers computer systems and the role of IT support in today's healthcare environment. This includes the installation and maintenance of Health IT Systems relating to hardware, software, programming, database management, and telecommunications.

  • Describe common HIT applications, including how they interact with the components of HIT systems and other applications.
  • Assess root causes of HIT-induced errors to identify their effects on usability, workflow interference, and system error and provide recommended solutions.
  • Assess troubleshooting solutions to identify potential problems and unintended consequences.

  • Compare and contrast data security, confidentiality, and privacy with respect to protecting Health IT systems and patient safety and privacy.
  • Plan to prevent and overcome common threats to data security, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Summarize best user practices, hardware controls, and software configurations necessary to maintain data security, confidentiality, and privacy.

  • Compare the features, benefits, and strengths of Health IT system hardware components in relation to an organization’s defined requirements.
  • Recommend Health IT system hardware components necessary to meet an organization’s defined requirements.
  • Create selection criteria for selecting vendors to supply and install Health IT system components.
  • Determine the appropriate order of Health IT system component installation and specific considerations to follow to minimize disruption and maximize installation efficiency.
