This course covers developing web applications using HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, and JavaScript®. This includes the use of different, advanced JavaScript® APIs; such as Drag-and-Drop API, Web Storage API, Geolocation API, and the Web Socket API.

  • Describe the purpose of the “this” keyword and identify the syntax necessary to refer to an object using the “this” keyword.
  • Define “variable” and “object scope,” and describe the result of trying to instantiate an object that is out of scope.
  • Identify and describe Geolocation API calls.

  • Explain the business benefit of apps that handle exceptions.
  • Code a web app that handles a JavaScript® exception.
  • Incorporate JavaScript® logic at multiple points in an HTML file.

  • Define “iteration,” and describe at least two business reasons programmers need to be able to iterate over collections of data.
  • Code a web app that defines an array, populates it with objects, and then uses iteration to sort those objects.

  • Describe the purpose and business benefit of a JavaScript® callback.
  • Describe the purpose and business benefit of a web worker.
  • Code a web app that includes both a JavaScript® callback and a web worker.

  • Describe the role that JSON plays in sending and receiving simple, textual web app data.
  • Explain the term AJAX, and describe the role AJAX plays in sending and receiving web app data.
  • Code a web app that serializes data using a jQuery® method and sends the serialized data, along with JSON-described data, to a web server using an XMLHttpRequest object.
  • Code a web app that receives both JSON-described and serialized data from a web server and deserializes the serialized data using a jQuery® method.
