This course introduces the role of electronic publishing in the delivery of information to businesses and consumers. Emphasis is placed on the methods and techniques involved in the electronic publishing of professional materials, reports, and digital content.

  • Modify elements of the InDesign® interface preferences and save a custom workspace in InDesign®.
  • Use publication properties, including size, margins and bleeds in an InDesign® print publication.
  • Create an InDesign® document using text and image frames within the page margins of the publication.
  • Use descriptively named layers for text, graphics/photos, and guides in an InDesign® project.
  • Construct an InDesign® publication that links high resolution images and graphics.

  • Create a design brief document that can be shared with clients and peers to communicate the purpose and project schedule of an InDesign® project.
  • Demonstrate how to save fonts, color themes, graphics and images listed in the design brief to Creative Cloud libraries.
  • Summarize the importance of following copyright laws for all text, fonts, and graphics/images used in publications.
  • Use Creative Cloud library content in a publication, including fonts, color themes, graphics and images.
  • Demonstrate how to save a publication as a packaged file, including fonts, images/graphics, .indd file and PDF.

  • Apply consistent page elements throughout a publication using master pages, including backgrounds, headers, footers, page numbers and logos.
  • Create a custom logo using InDesign® drawing, line, type tools.
  • Add text and tables, including headlines, subheads, text wrap, and columns to an InDesign® publication.
  • Use styles to format objects in an InDesign® publication.
  • Use character and paragraph styles to format text in an InDesign® publication.

  • Use the Story Editor to edit text by removing hyphenation, eliminating orphans/widows, and checking/fixing spelling within a publication.
  • Apply proper design principles to page layouts in an InDesign® publication.
  • Implement typography techniques to improve readability of an InDesign® publication.
  • Produce a printer-ready preflight report for a publication.
  • Export an InDesign® publication as a press-quality PDF with crop marks and bleeds.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of web publication properties.
  • Implement interactive features on an InDesign® publication.
  • Export an InDesign® publication as an interactive PDF.
  • Produce a web-ready accessibility report from Adobe® Acrobat®.
  • Use Publish Online to prepare an InDesign® publication for online distribution.
