IGNITE Accelerator-Incubator Group

IGNITE: Inspiring growth and new ideas for transformative entrepreneurs

From Idea to Impact: The Ignite Innovation Pathway

Led by Dr. Stephen Notaro, Director IGNITE Incubator/Accelerator, the Ignite project is a university-based innovation program designed to help entrepreneurs transform ideas into scalable ventures. Ignite supports students, alumni, faculty, and community innovators developing solutions in education, healthcare, and economic development.

Through a fully online collaboration model, Ignite connects founders with mentorship, ideation labs, startup resources, and MVP development support. Participants move from early-stage concepts to validated business models and market-ready ventures through structured incubator and accelerator pathways.

Ignite reflects the University of Phoenix commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, and real-world impact, helping founders build solutions that address complex challenges in education access, healthcare innovation, and economic opportunity.

What is IGNITE?

Ignite Innovators is a comprised, structured innovation community within the University of Phoenix Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurial Research designed to support individuals at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey, whether it's from early stage ideating through ambitious an aspirational growth ventures.

Ignite connects participants with mentorship, tools, and a collaborative network of experienced entrepreneurs to move ideas forward with intention and accountability.

Ignite operates through two integrated pathways:

  • Incubator: For idea-stage innovators developing and validating concepts
  • Accelerator: For early-stage startups preparing to scale, attract users, and secure funding

This dual-track approach allows participants to enter at whatever stage best fits their current work flow and help progress them forward as their ideas evolve.

Who is it for?

IGNITE is open to individuals and teams connected to the University of Phoenix ecosystem, including:

  • Students exploring business innovation ideas
  • Alumni building our growing ventures.
  • Faculty developing applied research and translational ideas
  • Staff are community collaborators working with university-affiliated teams.

At least one of the team members must maintain a meaningful connection to the university to engage this group.

Membership Gateways

If you're interested in engaging the group, you can do so through three tiered avenues which help us assign an interested party to their stage of development.

Explorer: Early-stage thinkers who are still clarifying ideas, problems, and opportunities.

Builder: Actively developing a product, service, or prototype for industry.

Launcher: Preparing for growth, scaling, our investment readiness.

This allows the IGNITE group to understand where you "fit" most appropriately within our structure for helping you move your ideas forward more fluidly as they mature.

Incubator track (ideation)

We are designed for individuals in the early stages of conceptual development of their entrepreneurial ideas.

Focus areas we cover

  • Idea refinement
  • Customer discovery.
  • Business model development
  • Accelerator track (Scaling)

Focus areas include:

  •  Growth strategy.
  • Customer acquisition.
  • Funding, preparation, and exploration  [We do not fund business endeavors, but we are open to helping generate ideas for such exploration.]

IGNITE is not just a program, but rather a structured environment and ideation lab for disciplined innovation.

Ideation Labs

Participants can move through broad concepts to more focused, testable ideas through these kinds of guided feedback sessions, utilizing peer feedback, expertise, as well as structured problem-solving.

MVP Development

Support is also provided to help build and test early versions of products quickly, allowing for real-world feedback before large investments of time or capital.

Mentorship network

Participants can gain access to experienced founders, industry professionals, and even subject matter experts through scheduled sessions and advisory relationships.

Pitch and investment readiness

Preparation guidance is supported for helping members to present their Ideas to investors, partners, and stakeholders through pitch development, workshop development, and demo opportunities.

IGNITE Accelerators/ Innovators group is built on a clear set of expectations that protect both creativity and trust:

  • Ownership - Your ideas always remain yours
  • Confidentiality - What is shared stays within the community
  • Collaboration - Members support, refine and strengthen one another's work
  • Integrity - Ethical conduct is required for continued participation within this group, as within any accelerator/incubator entity

Your participation in this group signifies that you understand the following rules of engagement in order to participate. We cannot foolproof or ensure aspects of idea protection; however, these groups remain small, and we are committed to the integrity of the group. Members who do not follow these guidelines will be removed from participation. Participants are encouraged to document and time stamp their work on their own accord to maintain clarity and protection of intellectual ideas and projects always.

IGNITE is designed around a key differentiator: A fully member ready virtual - first university accelerator/incubator model concept. This allows:

  • Access regardless of geographic location
  • Flexible participation for working professionals
  • Integration across disciplines and industries
  • Scalable engagement beyond traditional campus constraints

This positions IGNITE as a unique bridge between higher education, innovation, and real-world application.

IGNITE measures success through real, applied outcomes:

  • Development of minimum viable products (MVPs)
  • Launch of new ventures
  • Revenue generation and funding potentials explored
  • Job creation and internship opportunity exploration.
  • Social and community impact

Participants leave with more than ideas; they leave with validated direction and forward momentum and encouragement.

Ready to move your ideas forward?

Whether you are a student in the doctoral program thinking about how you'll make your concepts fly after graduation, or if you're preparing to scale any kind of startup, IGNITE provides the structure, support and community to help motivate, inspire, and move you to the next steps.
