Technology in the Classroom

At University of Phoenix, technology is interwoven into every aspect of our degree programs. Students tap into leading edge educational technology resources such as the eBook Collection, virtual organizations, simulations, the Center for Mathematics Excellence and the Center for Writing Excellence.

  • eBook Collection:
The eBook Collection includes hundreds of electronic textbooks. In many classes, selected readings are compiled from a variety of textbooks into a digital reader.
  • Virtual Organizations:
University of Phoenix created virtual organizations to simulate real life problems, complete with everything from company records to employee intranet sites. The Virtual Organizations allow students to research and study companies on a level that is more indicative of what they might face in the real world.
  • Simulations:
Students view sophisticated electronic demonstrations to explore and manipulate information in order to test hypotheses and assess results in a controlled environment.
  • Center for Mathematics Excellence:
The Center for Mathematics Excellence offers a flexible lab setting – open daily – where students can seek out additional assistance in math and receive feedback immediately on their coursework.
  • Center for Writing Excellence:
The Center for Writing Excellence provides resources to help enhance and strengthen written communication skills. The resources are divided into six main sections that include the WritePointSM system, Tutor Review, the Spanish Writing Lab (El Centro de RedAcción), Dissertation Services, Tutorials and Guides, and the Turnitin Plagiarism Checker.
  • WritePointSM System:
The WritePointSM system provides students with immediate feedback on grammar, punctuation, word usage, and some style points. In seconds, the system flags grammar issues and inserts instructional feedback into the text of the paper. The system processes an average of 250,000 papers per month and more than two million papers have been processed since the system was created.
  • Turnitin Plagiarism Checker:
The Plagiarism Checker is a tool developed to scan papers against the Internet and the research source database ProQuest® to discern every possible matching source. This service is available to students and faculty through the WritePointSM system.
  • Tutor Review:
In addition to WritePointSM, University of Phoenix offers Tutor Review service to give students the opportunity to have their papers reviewed by faculty. Papers are viewed for format, grammar, punctuation, and usage. Tutors provide feedback within 48 hours and typically review 7,000 papers per month. The Tutor Review also provides a Spanish Writing Lab (El Centro de RedAcción) for the campuses in which Spanish is the native language.
  • Tutorials and Guides:
The Center offers programs in writing and additional resources to help students develop writing skills within their specific discipline. Bilingual students can take advantage of the tutorials that provide guidance for non-native English speakers.
