  • University of Phoenix is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (www.acbsp.org) to offer the following business degrees: Associate of Arts in Foundations of Business, Associate of Arts in Accounting, Bachelor of Science in Business, Master of Business Administration, Master of Management, Doctor of Business Administration, and Doctor of Management.

  • The Master of Arts in Education program with options in Elementary Teacher Education and Secondary Teacher Education has been approved for initial accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of five years, from December 20, 2007 to December 20, 2012.     University of Phoenix initial degree programs lead to teaching certification (Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Level, Secondary and Special Education) in certain states. The College of Education offers state-approved initial programs in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. University of Phoenix advanced degree programs (Administration & Supervision, Curriculum & Instruction/Reading, and Teacher Leadership) may lead to certification in some states. The College of Education offers state-approved advanced programs in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. Individual programs vary by state, and not all programs are available at all locations or in both online and on-campus modalities.

    Candidates may request an institutional recommendation upon successful completion of their program (academic and program requirements). Candidates should check with their state agency for any state-specific requirements, including the acceptability of the University's initial programs in any state in which they intend to seek licensure or certification. Program requirements are subject to change based on state certification requirements. Please speak to a campus representative for a listing of programs available at each campus location.

  • The Master of Science in Counseling program in Community Counseling (Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona campuses) and the Master of Science in Counseling program in Mental Health Counseling (Salt Lake City, Utah campuses) are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Transferability of credit is at the discretion of the receiving institution. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm whether or not credits earned at University of Phoenix will be accepted by another institution of the student’s choice.

    Puerto Rico: University of Phoenix operates under a renewal license granted by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education.

Public Notice Regarding University of Phoenix Comprehensive Evaluation

University of Phoenix will undergo its regularly scheduled comprehensive evaluation for continued accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission in the 2011-2012 academic year. The institution’s last comprehensive review occurred in 2002. All accredited institutions are required to undergo such an evaluation at least once every 10 years.

The Higher Learning Commission site team will be in Phoenix, Arizona on March 12-14, 2012, and will subsequently visit University campuses and other locations across the country to evaluate the University’s fulfillment of its mission and compliance with the Commission’s standards and Criteria for Accreditation. 

The University invites members of the public to share comments and/or opinions with the Commission for the purposes of this visit. Comments should address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs. Comments will be considered in the initial phase of the review if received by February 12, 2012.  All comments must be received by June 30, 2012 in order to be included in the evaluation process.
