Fitzgerald sets the route for his career transition

NFL® wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald doesn’t have time. He just has moments, and he's committed to making them count.

Amidst a packed schedule that includes practice, games, playing with his two sons and volunteering in the community, Fitzgerald is also finishing his degree at University of Phoenix®. He says completing his education will be crucial to his continued success when he decides to pursue his next career challenge.

"When that day comes, I'll know I can go chase a new passion and attack it with the same vigor that I do my day job right now," he says.

Fitzgerald began his degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002, where he became a record-breaking athlete and runner-up for the 2003 HeismanSM Trophy. But, when the Arizona Cardinals® came calling his sophomore year, the path to his degree took a turn.

"I didn't want to leave school. But I had an opportunity to live my dream of playing pro ball, and I had to take it," Fitzgerald says. "But as I made that goal, I set new ambitions for myself and finishing my college degree was one of those."

After looking at a few school options once he entered the NFL, Fitzgerald chose University of Phoenix because it gave him the flexibility and support he needed to tackle courses amidst his hectic career and family life. Some days have been more difficult than others, and he's struggled through a few courses, but he says the incredible faculty support as well as his learning team's encouragement, have gotten him through.

"The infrastructure has been just unbelievable. No matter what your goals are, your experience level, they've done a tremendous job helping me complete tasks."

In May 2016, Fitzgerald was able to rise to his ambitions and graduated with a degree in Communications. Inspired by his two little boys, he is living proof that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.

"I want my kids to see me graduate," he says. "And I want them to understand that education can never be taken from you, but nothing's gonna be given to you. There's gonna be sacrifices you have to make to reach your goals."
