Overview
University of Phoenix offers a number of institutional scholarships to help make higher education more available for working adults. They also assist students in reaching their educational goals.
The University usually partners with a non-profit organization that helps to promote the scholarship program.
How We Define You: Prospective and Current Students
The Center for Scholarship Excellence (CSE) has scholarship programs for prospective and current students. Every scholarship has unique criteria; review the application carefully to see if you meet the requirements.
Prospective Students
Being a prospective student, means you’re not currently completing a degree program with University of Phoenix:
- You have never attended; or
- You completed the admissions paperwork more than six months ago but never completed the first course; or
- You have not attended a course within the past 365 days
To remain a prospective student, you should not begin the admissions process until after the scholarship award date. The award date is listed on the application.
Current Students
A current student is in the process of completing a degree program with University of Phoenix:
- You are currently enrolled or attending ; or
- You completed the admissions paperwork less than six months ago; or
- You’ve attended a course within the past year

These programs are available to applicants nationally. There is no residency requirement to be met. To apply, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria listed in the application.

These scholarships celebrate our 36 year history of making higher education highly accessible for students of all ages and backgrounds. As the largest private university in North America, we take very seriously our social responsibility to our students and the communities we serve. University of Phoenix is particularly adept at aiding non-traditional students complete their education by designing programs around their busy lives. We want to give back to our hard-working alumni and provide them an opportunity to further their educational careers at University of Phoenix.
Through this scholarship program, thirty-six (36) $3,000 scholarships will be offered. Each scholarship will allow a current student the opportunity to continue their chosen bachelor’s, masters or doctoral degree program at University of Phoenix. Recipients must be alumni currently enrolled in their second degree program from University of Phoenix, and may be attending a University of Phoenix on-ground campus or University of Phoenix online. Only the first 300 eligible applications will be considered.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America seeks to enable all young people, especially those with particular needs, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs offer youth a safe place to learn, grow, and develop a sense of influence and belonging.
Through this scholarship program, twenty (20) full-tuition scholarships will be offered. Each scholarship will allow a prospective student the opportunity to complete an undergraduate or master’s degree program at University of Phoenix. Recipients may choose to attend a University of Phoenix on-ground campus or may attend University of Phoenix online.

It has become a backbone institution for San Francisco's vulnerable children, families and seniors by providing a continuum of programs that support an individual's life span. Through high quality early childhood and youth development programs as well as senior services, MNC reaches across generations providing culturally appropriate services that improve the quality of life of thousands of families city-wide.
Through this scholarship program, five (5) full-tuition scholarships will be offered. Each scholarship will allow a prospective student the opportunity to complete an undergraduate or master's degree program at University of Phoenix. University of Phoenix is pleased to partner with the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Associates (FBINAA) to offer a scholarship program. This scholarship is for graduates of FBINAA to continue with their education in order to advance executive skills within the organization. This partnership was started at the National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona in July of 2007 The FBINAA is a non-profit international organization of senior law enforcement professionals dedicated to providing our communities and profession with the highest degree of law enforcement expertise, training, education and information.
Through this scholarship program, four (4) full-tuition scholarships will be offered. Each scholarship will allow a prospective student the opportunity to complete a bachelor's or master's degree program at University of Phoenix. If the section has no active members who are interested, then it will be awarded to an active member's immediate family member. Recipients must be current FBINAA members or family of a current member and may choose to attend a University of Phoenix on-ground campus or may attend University of Phoenix online.

Since 2009, University of Phoenix alumni have proudly proclaimed “I Am A Phoenix.” A Phoenix is someone who has worked hard to get here and is working harder still to improve their life and the lives of those around them. A Phoenix is someone who is confident, thought provoking, and always true. A Phoenix has defied the odds and overcome adversity to stand triumphant.
Together, with the University of Phoenix Alumni Association, University of Phoenix is providing a scholarship opportunity to its alumni to continue their education. Alumni, who have graduated from any University of Phoenix degree program, are eligible to apply to receive a full-tuition scholarship towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree program of their choice. Through this program, six (6) scholarships will be awarded. Recipients may choose to attend a University of Phoenix on-ground campus or may attend University of Phoenix online. Founded in 1963 by a group of African Americans who wanted to improve the conditions of their community, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. continues to seek ways to improve the quality of life within their communities. It is dedicated to providing educational development and economic empowerment to all African Americans.
Through this scholarship program, eleven (11) full-tuition scholarships will be offered. Since being founded, AMVETS now assists individuals who are currently serving, or who have honorably served, in the U.S. Armed Forces from World War II to the present. As part of their commitment, AMVETS supports those who desire to finish their education.
Through this scholarship program, fifty (50) scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $7,000. The scholarship can be used towards an undergraduate or master's program. Recipients may choose to take courses at a University of Phoenix on-ground campus or University of Phoenix online.

Kids' Chance is a 501(c) (3) organization that was created for the purpose of assisting and supporting these children educationally. Incorporated in 1970, NIEA is the largest and oldest Indian education organization in the nation and strives to keep Indian Country moving toward educational equity. Governed by a Board of Directors made up of twelve representatives, NIEA has several committees that work to ensure native educators and students are represented in various educational institutions and forums throughout Indian Country and Washington, D.C.

In 2006, in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the University launched the Paying It Forward® Scholarship Program where thirty University alumni identified thirty deserving individuals who could change their lives and the lives of others through a college education. The University awarded thirty selected recipients a full-tuition scholarship to pursue one degree in a program of their choosing at the University of Phoenix. Every year since, the University has launched another cycle of Paying It Forward® to help 30 more people reach their educational goals.

Happy Hill Farm Academy is an accredited K-12 private academy supported by the Dallas Cowboys.

University of Phoenix is pleased to partner with Roland Hemond and the Association of Professional Ball Players of America (APBPA) to offer a scholarship program. Roland Hemond has been in the baseball industry for over 60 years. On February 22, 2011 he was awarded the Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's Board of Directors. In the spirit of helping players think about life after baseball, Roland encourages baseball players, coaches and umpires to obtain a higher education while in the game.
APBPA was founded in 1924 when twelve former players decided to reach out to assist less fortunate members of their profession. Since it began, APBPA has helped current and former professional baseball players, coaches, umpires, scouts, and clubhouse men.

Together, we will work to provide educational opportunities to individuals that volunteer with HandsOn Network membership programs. HandsOn Network membership programs include HandsOn Action Centers, Business Members, Nonprofit/Government Members, HandsOn Corps, and volunteers participating in the Get HandsOn Challenge. As part of the partnership, University of Phoenix has established the Serve It Forward® Scholarship program with HandsOn Network, the volunteer-focused arm of Points of Light Institute, which is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation and includes more than 250 HandsOn Action Centers that reach out more than 83% of the nation's population and extend throughout 10 countries. University of Phoenix recognizes that many individuals aspire to further their career through education and service to become leaders in their community therefore creating this scholarship.

This program was created to pay tribute to those who fight heroically for the protection of American freedoms as well as to honor brave men and women who return home from service in Iraq and Afghanistan with severe injuries. Through full-tuition scholarships, injured veterans are empowered to reach their academic goals or pursue second careers. An excellent way to show gratitude to our nation's heroes and severely injured veterans is to enable them to rebuild their lives and help them make the sometimes difficult transition back in to their communities into productive and fulfilling lives.

Originally established in 1982 as the Midwest Voter Registration Education Project, the organization became USHLI in December 1996. USHLI is dedicated to empowering Latinos and similarly disenfranchised groups by promoting, civic engagement, education, and leadership development. Their organization has been able to maintain a stable presence in hundreds of communities over the years by promoting empowerment and civic responsibility. Committed to securing a brighter future for our country, USHLI constantly strives to improve and adapt our society to the ever changing complexion of the nation.
Through this scholarship program, five (5) full-tuition scholarships will be offered. University of Phoenix is pleased to work with Wounded Warrior Project, Inc. to offer a scholarship program. Wounded Warrior Project, Inc. (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to back to civilian life.
Thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs designed to nurture the mind and body and encourage economic empowerment and engagement; to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded warriors in this nation's history, and to honor and empower wounded warriors.
Through this scholarship program, ten (10) full-tuition scholarships will be offered to WWP Alumni, i.e., those service members affiliated with WWP's programs and services. Each scholarship will allow a prospective student the opportunity to complete a master's degree program at University of Phoenix. Deputy Ian Michael Deutch was killed in the line of duty in Pahrump, Nevada while responding to a shooting call on April 26, 2010. Deputy Deutch was a member of the Nevada Army National Guard and was on his second day back on duty after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. He had served with the Nye County Sheriff's Office for six year. In his honor, a $12,000 scholarship was developed to be awarded to a University of Phoenix student who is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree program.

In the fall of 2009 the University of Phoenix lost a dedicated student of many years two days after her graduation. In her memory, the Houston Campus has established the Faith Worthey Guillory scholarship fund to honor her contributions to the University and to the community. Faith worked tirelessly to create a positive environment for other students, obtained her degree in Business Accounting and wanted to further her learning and pursue a more meaningful degree in Special Education. She had a passion for education and was passionate about being part of giving back to education. Faith worked as a certified pharmacy technician and was a single mother of three grown children. She inspired those around her to work hard and instilled a feeling of camaraderie and cooperation among her coworkers. Faith enjoyed being a part of life, not a bystander. The student receiving the Faith Worthey Guillory Scholarship will carry the honor of a woman who believed in education, commitment, and making the most of every day.

University of Phoenix is pleased to offer the Franco Aguilar Fallen Officer Scholarship. Sergeant Franco Aguilar died instantly as the result of a fall from a freeway overpass. The 36-year-old victim had responded to the scene of a one-car traffic crash atop the Fish Creek overpass on Interstate 70, approximately 12 miles east of Interstate 15. While Sgt. Franco was investigating the incident, the driver of an approaching vehicle lost control on the icy road and collided with the first. Sgt. Aguilar was knocked from the overpass. Sgt. Franco, the first Latino officer to die in the line of duty in Utah, is survived by his wife and five children.
Through this scholarship program, one (1) $10,000 tuition scholarship will be offered in Sgt. Franco's honor. This scholarship will provide a current student the financial support to be used towards his or her undergraduate degree program at University of Phoenix. The University of Phoenix Helen Foletta Scholarship was established in honor of Helen Foletta, a truly remarkable and inspirational woman. She started school as a single parent of six children ranging in grades from kindergarten to high school. Realizing the importance of higher education, she financed her collegiate education part time by working with University of Phoenix founder, John Sperling as his first employee. Later, Helen was able to become a full time student by continuing her University of Phoenix employment and other miscellaneous jobs. This scholarship program will be awarded to help one deserving high school senior who will have graduated on or before August 2010 reach their potential through education. Together, University of Phoenix and the VHSL will award one (1) $12,500 tuition scholarship to help propel their future success and may be used towards tuition and fees for one year of an Associate's degree of choice at University of Phoenix.

The Wichita Children's Home was founded in 1888 as the city's first orphanage to "support and care for destitute and homeless children." Today, the Wichita Children's Home offers the only emergency, temporary residential shelter for children in our community. The Home is open 24/7 and serves children from birth to 22 years of age. Over 1,000 children are admitted annually to the Wichita Children's Home in need of foster care homes. These children, unable to live safely with their own family and relatives, need a safe and stable environment. Foster care families provide for children by generously opening their hearts and their homes. The Wichita's Children's Home aims to provide education, prevention, and advocacy initiatives to the communities they serve.
