Paying it Forward - 2009 Profiles

Wioletta Migasiuk

Alumna - Laurel, Maryland

Wioletta is a true success story. She emigrated from Poland in 1986 without knowing a word of English and put aside her education for 15 years to put her family and career first. She eventually came across the online health administration program at University of Phoenix and started her program. During her degree she learned essential communication and organization skills that have helped her in her workplace as an instructional assistant for special needs students. She overcame huge language and cultural obstacles to succeed in her degree program and earn the skills and knowledge for today’s global workplace.

Wioletta truly believes that education is the key to success, and most importantly the key to helping others in need and seeing them succeed. She will be earning her MBA with a concentration in health administration.

Andrzej Migasiuk

Recipient - Laurel, Maryland

Andrzej pushed pause on his education when he emigrated to the U.S. from Poland in 1989. He supported his family financially and emotionally as he and his wife became acclimated to their new home. He had to learn English and fell in love with the American Dream. He believed in it for himself and family, even if would take years to reach it. While his wife Wioletta completed her education he became the housekeeper, cook, and primary financial provider. He worked hard to make sure they could pay her tuition. Now it is Andrzej’s turn and he is ready to show his daughter that you can complete your education no matter your age.
