Robert M. Caldwell earned his Ph.D. in Education from Penn State with a research fellowship in Artificial Intelligence. He also earned his M.Ed. in Secondary Education/Educational Psychology from University of Pittsburgh and his Bachelor of Science in English from Clarion University. Robert has been involved in higher education as an administrator, professor and researcher for more than 30 years. His tenure as a university instructor includes being a faculty member at University of Phoenix’s Southern California Campus for more than 15 years. He teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses including Business Research Methods , Quantitative Methods and Human Factors and Ergonomics. He’s also taught the certification workshops required for all new faculty members, and served as an area chair in Graduate Studies, as well as serving as an online instructor for both graduate and undergraduate courses.
He also has spent 11 years on the faculties of Southern Methodist University in Dallas and at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. In addition, his academic career includes a variety of administrative posts ranging from Dean to Vice President of Academic Affairs at a variety of public and private institutions.
Robert has written four books and more than 100 published research articles on a wide range of topics relating to the field of education and, particularly, in the areas of computer-assisted instruction and online education. He has been a chief executive officer in the computer software industry in Texas and in California, and has served as a senior research scientist at Nichols Research Corporation in Newport Beach, Calif., where he managed a team of scientists charged with designing Strategic Defense Initiative solutions using artificial intelligence and expert systems tools and strategies. In these roles, he spent considerable time in contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and legal consultation which ultimately led to his being formally trained as a Superior Court-appointed mediator in Southern California.
