Stephen Sharp

Using his extensive experience, knowledge and passion, Dr. Stephen Sharp is guiding our College's future success as its academic dean.

Steve's tenure at University of Phoenix began in 2005, serving as associate faculty, clinical director and campus college chair at the Utah Campus, and then as associate dean and program dean for the College of Social Sciences. He played a key role in revitalizing the College's Human Services and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs.

As a mental health facilitator (MHF) master trainer with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) International, Steve teaches others to be MHF trainers — from refugee camp workers and local first responders in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, to more than 100 University of Phoenix instructors across the U.S. He also is the primary contributor for embedding NBCC’s MHF curriculum into the University’s Human Services undergraduate degree program.

His formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah State University, and a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Human Services with a Professional Counseling Specialization from Capella University. Steve further honed his expertise with specialized credentials and professional licenses, and accrued more than 10 years of clinical experience in the private and community sectors.

Steve sits on The Professional Counselor editorial board and is a scholarship and fellowship reviewer for the National Board for Certified Counselors Foundation.
