Mission Statement
The Center for Scholarship Excellence (CSE) is a department within University of Phoenix that is committed to providing financial support through institutional and external scholarship programs. The CSE encourages students to borrow responsibly as they work toward their educational goals.
Scholarship Types and Definitions
A scholarship is awarded to help pay the cost of a student’s education. Scholarships are not provided to all students. A limited number of scholarships are available. A student can obtain a scholarship by meeting the scholarship criteria, applying for the scholarship, and becoming the successful recipient. Depending on the number of other applicants, the process can be very competitive.
Scholarships, unlike student loans, do not need to be repaid. Students generally must start repaying their student loans six to nine months—depending on the type of loan— after they graduate or leave school.
Because scholarships can help to lessen a student’s financial burden, our Center for Scholarship Excellence provides resources to students to help them maximize their scholarship opportunities.
Scholarships are offered through two sources: institutional and external sources.
