Official Education Partner of the Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals

Become a game changer — through higher education

University of Phoenix and the Arizona Cardinals are focused on encouraging the more than 44 million Americans who have started but not completed their college degrees, to finish what they began.

As the Official Education Partner of the Arizona Cardinals, our goal is to empower future generations through education — helping to ensure that students of all ages have access to the tools they need to succeed in school. Throughout Arizona, we support community outreach programs that improve education, recognize exceptional teachers and reward students who excel in the classroom.

Focus to the Finish scholarship

At University of Phoenix, we believe that nothing should stand in the way of completing your degree. It all starts with a game plan.

And sometimes, a little teamwork comes in handy. That’s why we launched our annual Focus to the Finish℠ scholarship.

Each year, the University offers 16 full-tuition scholarships to individuals who are as motivated as Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald when it comes to completing their degrees. Each scholarship allows a prospective student the opportunity to complete an undergraduate or master’s degree at University of Phoenix — and prepare for the game of life.

The application deadline has passed for this season, but please visit us again next season for more opportunities.

Marquee Math Competition

Each spring, we co-host an annual Marquee Math Competition for Valley high school students at University of Phoenix Stadium®.

Participants are challenged to solve problems from a variety of math disciplines, including physics and geometry. Football terminology, plays and statistics are used as variables.

Last April, competing schools included Bioscience, Campo Verde, Cesar Chavez, Higley, Mesquite, Mountain Pointe, Queen Creek, Saguaro, Tolleson Union, University and Westwood high schools.

The math problems were created and graded by several University of Phoenix representatives: Shawn McCowan, PhD (associate dean, College of Humanities and Sciences), Douglas M. Lenz (director of academic affairs, College of Humanities and Sciences online), Daniel Mullins (academic affairs project director) and Avi Silterra (instructional designer).

Donate to Educate

Donate to Educate

University of Phoenix and Arizona Cardinals Charities team up each football season to raise much-needed funding for local public schools and educational organizations. Money collected during the season is awarded the following fall in grants of up to $5,000 each.

Now through July 1st, Arizona Cardinals Charities will be accepting grant applications from Arizona nonprofits, schools and districts to receive funding raised from the Donate to Educate program in 2013. Recipients will be determined by September 1, 2014, and will be notified at that time. All nominations will be accepted electronically and can be accessed at

Through Donate to Educate, your contributions are making a difference in the lives of Arizona students and educators.

Here’s how it works: At each Cardinals home game, fans are encouraged to enter the Arizona Cardinals Charities 50/50 raffle at University of Phoenix Stadium. Proceeds from selected games have achieved the following goals, and much more:

  • Put new technology and school supplies in Arizona classrooms
  • Promoted student health, wellness and literacy
  • Encouraged students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math

At the September 15, 2013, game, grants were awarded to the following organizations:

  • Abia Judd Elementary School
  • Arizona Call-A-Teen Youth Resources: Center of Excellence High School
  • Bourgade Catholic High School
  • Chandler Education Foundation
  • Early Childhood Cholla Campus
  • Junior Achievement of Arizona
  • Moon Mountain Elementary School

Kids camps

University of Phoenix and the Arizona Cardinals share a passion for giving back to local communities. That’s why every football season, we offer co-sponsored football clinics for children living in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

In 2013, we welcomed children from Santa Maria Middle School and Supai Middle School. At each camp, 150 students had the opportunity to interact with the Arizona Cardinals staff, the Cardinals team mascot “Big Red” and an Arizona Cardinals player. More details will be provided here as the 2014–15 season gets under way.

Cardinals Classroom All-Stars

Do you set a shining example for your school and community?

University of Phoenix and the Arizona Cardinals are honoring local classroom all-stars — students who display greatness both in and out of school.

Each season, we ask kids to tell us what makes them good role models. From those entries, 100 students are chosen to receive four tickets to an Arizona Cardinals home game.

The application deadline has passed for this season, but please visit us again next season for more opportunities.
