University of Phoenix Honored By Leading Military Websites
PHOENIX – University of Phoenix, the largest private university in North America, was recently recognized by several leading military-focused outlets for its contributions and commitment to the military community. G.I. Jobs recognized University of Phoenix as one of its 2011 Military Friendly Schools, honoring the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. CivilianJobs.com, where America’s military connects with civilian careers, also named University of Phoenix a 2010 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military ™, joining a prestigious group of 26 winners including GE, Northrop Grumman, Amazon.com and CSX.
“We are pleased to be recognized with these awards because they demonstrate our commitment to the military community,” said Garland Williams, University of Phoenix, Associate Regional Vice President, Military Division. “In addition to employing numerous members of the military as faculty or enrollment advisors, University of Phoenix offers active duty members, their spouses and veterans a unique opportunity to gain an education that has meaning and real-world relevance.
Our military students and employees are a top priority to University of Phoenix and we are honored to serve you.”
G.I. Jobs is a veteran-owned publication dedicated to providing fellow veterans the tools needed for post-military success, including the Military Friendly Schools list. An Academic Advisory Board (AAB) assisted in developing criteria for making the list, which included a school’s efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, the actual results of recruitment, and its academic accreditations.
“The Military Friendly Schools list is the gold standard in letting veterans know which schools will offer them the greatest opportunity, flexibility and overall experience,” said Derek Blumke, president of Student Veterans of America and a member of the list’s Academic Advisory Board.
“Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated,” said G.I. Jobs publisher, Rich McCormack. “The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend.”
A full story and detailed list will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools and on a poster, both of which will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in late September.
The CivilianJobs.com MVE for Military serves to help military-experienced job seekers identify the top employers to target for civilian careers. The MVE winners and finalists are selected annually based on those employers whose recruiting, training and retention plans best serve military service members and veterans. The MVE for Military 2010 was open to all U.S.-based companies.
“I would like to congratulate all of the MVE award recipients,” said Sandra (Sandy) Morris, CEO of Bradley-Morris, Inc. (BMI), parent company of CivilianJobs.com. “We are excited to have employers ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies represented in this year’s winners and finalists list. Each MVE company understands the value that military-experienced talent brings to their organization.”
Award recipients were recognized on the CivilianJobs.com website as well as in the May issue of Civilian Job News, CivilianJobs.com’s world-wide military base newspaper.
