Phylicia Rashad
Phylicia Rashad graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Howard University and has since been awarded two honorary doctoral degrees from Brown University and Spelman College for her work in the fine arts. The Harvard Black Men’s Forum named her the 2003 Woman of the Year. In 2011, Rashad became the first Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre at Fordham University. Most recently, Rashad has become the voice of University of Phoenix in the Let’s get to work™ advertising campaign.

During her distinguished career on stage and in film and television, she’s received multiple NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress and has been nominated for several Emmy Awards. For her role in the play “A Raisin in the Sun,” Rashad earned a Tony Award. She was the first African-American woman in history to receive a Tony.

Order your cap and gown

Herff Jones will provide University of Phoenix regalia as well as graduation announcements. If you're a doctoral candidate, the deadline to order your regalia was April 30, 2013. For all other candidates, the deadline to order your regalia is May 12, 2013.

New Alumni Reception

Join us at the New Alumni Reception for two hours immediately following the ceremonies. This reception will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center. Enjoy light refreshments, music and the chance to congratulate each other and take photos.

University of Phoenix Night at the Ballpark

Continue celebrating with us at University of Phoenix Night at the Ballpark at Chase Field. We’re offering graduates up to four complimentary tickets, available at the gate on the night of your ceremony. Arizona Diamondbacks versus the San Francisco Giants.

Frequently asked questions

When and where is the commencement ceremony?

There are two commencement ceremonies being held on June 7th and 8th, each at 11 am. This year, both ceremonies will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center, located in downtown Phoenix at 100 N. Third St., Phoenix, AZ 85004.

I’m graduating. What time do I need to arrive at the Phoenix Convention Center?

Please arrive at the venue by 9 am the day of your commencement ceremony so you have time to register and line up. The ceremony begins at 11 am.

Where can I get tickets for friends and family to attend the ceremony?

Each graduate will receive four (4) tickets for seats in the main ceremony room. You can pick up your tickets at registration the day of the ceremony. These seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. A nearby ballroom is also reserved with more seating and large screens for additional guests to view the ceremony live.

If you have family or friends who can’t make it to Phoenix, they can watch a live broadcast of the ceremony over the Internet.

When is the deadline to register?

The deadline to register for National Commencement is April 11, 2013.

How do I get my cap and gown? Do I have to order them by a certain date?

Order your cap and gown (often referred to as regalia) from Herff Jones. If you’re graduating from an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree program, you need to order your regalia by May 12, 2013. If you are a doctoral candidate, the deadline to order your regalia is May 7, 2013.

Will my diploma be mailed to me?

Yes. After you complete your degree program and have filled out your Diploma Application, your diploma will be mailed to you within 30 to 60 days.

Is the Diploma Application the same thing as the registration for commencement?

No. The Diploma Application should be handled by your Academic Advisor. It is not part of registration to attend the ceremony. It covers information for your diploma and other university exit details.

What is the New Alumni Reception?

This is a reception that you and your guests can take part in after the ceremony. It will include light hors d’oeuvres, photo opportunities by GradImages, networking benefits through the Alumni Association, and many other areas of interest for new graduates.
