Meet Tim Youkhana,

MBA '12

Working his way up the ranks of a top retail pharmacy for 11 years, Tim Youkhana had the goal of breaking into the corporate side of the field. Six months after completing his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree elsewhere and practicing as a pharmacist, Youkhana began the Master of Business Administration program at University of Phoenix®.

Burning the midnight oil

Youkhana knew that in order to make the transition to the corporate side of pharmacy, he needed the business skills he could gain through an MBA program. "I was able to work my way up to become a pharmacy manager while attending and completing the courses towards my MBA."

His biggest challenge in furthering his education was that he worked the overnight shift. "Through University of Phoenix’s MBA program, I was able to complete my degree online; responding to discussion questions and completing assignments during down times while I worked the midnight shift. It was oftentimes 2 a.m. when I posted responses to the discussion questions."

Opportunity knocks

After graduating with his MBA from University of Phoenix in 2012, Youkhana achieved his goal of moving into the corporate side of pharmacy: he was selected for the position of manager of third-party operations and finance.

"I 100-percent believe that earning my MBA is what set me apart. When I interviewed for the position, there were other pharmacists I was competing against who had some corporate experience under their belts. But even with just coming straight from the pharmacy field, I felt that my MBA did an excellent job of preparing me for the position."
