Things to know before you go

Parking/Transportation
A $12 parking fee is required. The closest garages are East Garage (601 E Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85004) and

North Garage (475 E. Monroe St, Phoenix, AZ. 85004). Another option is the West Garage (185 N. 2nd St., Phoenix, AZ. 85004).  Accessible parking spaces are available in all garages. If drop off for a guest or graduate is necessary, there is a pull-in option located at 3rd Street and Monroe Street.

Metro light rail has dedicated stops at the Phoenix Convention Center.

*There are several events happening in the downtown area so please plan accordingly with drive time and parking.

Entrances
There will be several entrance options at the North building. Entrances on 5th street (east side) and 3rd street (west side).

Graduate check-in
Please bring your name index card, which shows a bar code with your name and degree, on the day of the ceremony. These cards will be mailed out approximately two weeks before the ceremony to each graduate. We can provide a duplicate name card, if needed, on the day of the ceremony.

Tickets required — please do not forget to bring them to the ceremony
Your requested tickets, along with your name card, will be mailed approximately two weeks before the ceremony. The amount of tickets you receive will depend on the number of guests selected during registration. Please note: additional tickets will not be available on the day of the ceremony.

Personal belongings
There is no storage at the commencement venue for personal belongings. Please make arrangements for a guest to hold any personal items or carry them with you at all times. University of Phoenix is not responsible for any damage or loss to personal property.

Regalia items to bring
Please bring your cap and gown, as well as your stole (undergraduate students) and/or hood (graduate students). Staff will assist you in arranging your hood before the ceremony. Use a cool iron if necessary to ensure a wrinkle-free appearance. For any special regalia needs or for pickup arrangements, Herff Jones accepts cash or card.

Military graduates: Remember to bring your cord to the ceremony. The military cord is available to order on the regalia web site but will also be available on the day of the ceremony.

Honor cord eligibility

  • You must be a bachelor’s degree student with a program GPA of 3.85 or higher. The University does not have an honors designation for associate, masters or doctoral students.
  • If you have met the University Honors requirements, by the commencement ceremony date, and have met all other eligibility criteria, will be recognized at commencement ceremonies with the University honor cord.  Students who attend commencement ceremonies and wear the University honor cord before degree conferral are not guaranteed the “Graduated with Honors” designation. Academic standards must be met in order for a “Graduated with Honors” degree to be awarded. Students may fail to meet the University Honors standards after attending commencement ceremonies.

Honor Cord Distribution Section

  • The University identifies graduates registered for the commencement who are eligible for the honor cord. If you are eligible to receive an honor cord one will be provided to you at no cost on the day of commencement.

ADA Accommodations
If you or any of your guests will require ADA accommodations at the Phoenix Commencement Ceremony, please contact the Phoenix Commencement team at Phoenix.Commencement@phoenix.edu. Wheelchairs are not available, so please plan accordingly. There will be several accessible seating areas.

Security
No balloons, confetti, noisemakers, food or drinks are allowed in the commencement venue. Unopened bottled water is acceptable.

Photography
The University has coordinated with GradImages Photography to photograph graduates before and during the ceremony.

Class rings
The University has coordinated with Herff Jones to display and sell class rings at the reception following the ceremony.

Strollers
Due to fire marshal regulations, strollers are not permitted in the seating area. There will be a designated area for strollers.  Please be advised that University of Phoenix is not responsible for any damage or loss to personal property.

Lost and found
Please inquire with a University of Phoenix staff member for lost items. Any unclaimed items will be left at the commencement venue.

Road closures
Check with the Arizona Department of Transportation for any road closures the weekend of commencement.

Reception

  • Following the ceremony, please join us for a special Commencement Reception to celebrate your big day. RSVP is not required, and your guests are welcome to attend.
