Things to know before you go

Parking can be reserved ahead of time by visiting SacPark. There are several parking garages close to the arena.


Guests can enter through the Grand Entrance off the DOCO Plaza (See Map).

Graduate check-in

All graduates are to report to Grad Central at 11:30am. Grad Central will be in St. Rose of Lima Park at 705 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 (7th & K Streets). The park is adjacent to Golden 1 Center, Starbucks, and Sauced BBQ. It will be marked with white festival tents and balloons.

Here you can take photos with your family, talk to our Sacramento Valley Alumni Chapter, pick up your regalia, pick up your student card (if previously lost or didn’t receive one), purchase alumni material and more! You can meet your family, guests and classmates here prior to the ceremony. This will also be the location after the ceremony where you can celebrate with your family and guests at the Alumni Celebration.

You will receive a reminder of instructions and your individual student information card via USPS within one week of the ceremony. Student information cards will be sent to the home mailing address with which you registered for the ceremony. Please bring your student information card to the ceremony as it is your form of check in. The index card shows a bar code with your name and degree when crossing the stage.

If the information on the student information card is incorrect please email or visit the Graduate Assistance tent on the day of the ceremony.

Write the Phonetic pronunciation of your name on your student information card before arrival at the Golden 1 Center.

Please email prior to the ceremony if you, as a graduate, will need any special seating and/or mobility assistance.  All special seating for guests will be managed by Golden 1 Center staff upon entry to the facility.


Tickets are not required for the ceremony, and seating is available on a first come, first serve basis only.

Personal belongings

There is no storage at the commencement venue for personal belongings. Please make arrangements for a guest to hold any personal items, or carry them with you at all times. Please be advised that University of Phoenix is not responsible for any damage or loss to personal property.

Regalia items to bring

Bring your cap and gown. Additionally, undergraduates must bring their stoles and graduate students must bring their hoods. Staff will assist you in arranging your hood prior to the ceremony. Use a cool iron, if necessary, to ensure a wrinkle-free appearance. For any special regalia needs or for pickup arrangements, National Recognition Products (NRP) accepts cash or card.  Please contact NRP for any regalia needs or questions by email or phone 800.293.0665.

Military graduates: Remember to bring your cord to the ceremony. The military cord was available to order on the regalia web site. If this was not ordered, they will be available for pick up on the day of the ceremony.

Honor cord eligibility

  • You must be a bachelor’s degree student with a program GPA of 3.85 or higher. The University does not have an honors designation for associate, masters or doctoral students.
  • If you have met the University Honors requirements, by the commencement ceremony date, and have met all other eligibility criteria, will be recognized at commencement ceremonies with the University honor cord.  Students who attend commencement ceremonies and wear the University honor cord before degree conferral are not guaranteed the “Graduated with Honors” designation. Academic standards must be met in order for a “Graduated with Honors” degree to be awarded. Students may fail to meet the University Honors standards after attending commencement ceremonies.  

Honor Cord distribution

  • The University identifies graduates registered for the commencement who are eligible for the honor cord. If you are eligible to receive an honor cord one will be provided to you at no cost on the day of commencement.

ADA Accommodations
If you or any of your guests will require ADA accommodations at the Sacramento Valley Commencement Ceremony, please contact the Sacramento Valley Commencement team at Wheelchairs are not available, so please plan accordingly. There will be several accessible seating areas.

No balloons, confetti, noisemakers, food or drinks are allowed in the commencement venue. However, unopened bottled water and baby food are acceptable.

Strollers Section

Due to Fire Marshal regulations, strollers are not permitted in the seating area.  Please be advised that University of Phoenix is not responsible for any damage or loss to personal property. Please refer to the arena website for details:

University of Phoenix Swag

Be sure to capture your graduation memories by visiting our University of Phoenix swag table located at Grad Central in St. Rose of Lima Park. Swag will be available before and after the ceremony. Please note that only credit cards will be accepted.

Road Closures

Check with the City of Sacramento for any road closures the weekend of commencement.

The University has coordinated with Best Grad Photo to photograph graduates at the ceremony. If you would like to register for photos before or after the ceremony, or have questions, please call 800.284.7235 or visit Best Grad Photo.

Class Rings
The University has coordinated with National Recognition Products to display and sell class rings. They’ll be available for after the ceremony in Grad Central area.

Leaving the ceremony

We ask that you stay until the end of the program and participate in the recessional march. After the recessional, you will exit the ceremony and go to Grad Central to meet your friends and family.


Following the ceremony, join us at Grad Central for a special New Alumni Celebration. Grad Central is in St. Rose of Lima park at 7th and K streets. Please share this information with your guests so you can plan accordingly. RSVP is not required and your guests are welcome to attend.
