This course provides students with an overview of leadership theories to assist in the development of effective leadership skills. Students will discuss workplace change and the leader’s role in the change process, as well as examine and analyze effective performance indicators for staff and organizational goals.

  • Identify tools for motivating and empowering staff.
  • Explain the importance of accountability.

Week 3 - Leadership Challenges

  • Explain the role of leadership in creating an effective work group.
  • Explain the leader’s role in conflict management.
  • Construct a change management plan.

Week 4 - Processes and Considerations for Leaders

  • Analyze the responsibility of the leader in the delegation process.
  • Analyze the problem-solving process.
  • Explain the elements of decision-making for managers and leaders within health care organizations.
  • Analyze ethical considerations in leadership within health care.

Week 5 - Building for Leadership

  • Analyze positive modeling and mentorship.
  • Analyze personal leadership philosophy.
