University of Phoenix presenting sponsor of Diversity Leadership Alliance 21st Annual Conference

By Sharla Hooper

Event focused on highlighting the value of diversity and cultivating change agents in the workplace

University of Phoenix is proud to support the 21st annual Diversity Leadership Alliance (DLA) Conference, “Brave Conversations: Turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones,” October 12 – 14, 2022, in a virtual format, with a hybrid opening ceremony and awards presentation.

With a diverse student body of working adults, University of Phoenix has long been focused on creating a diverse, equitable, inclusive and belonging (DEIB) learning and workplace environment. The University’s ever-evolving efforts prioritize the needs of diverse students as well as the faculty and staff who work to increase students’ access to and participation in higher education, through measures including educational events such as the annual Inclusive Leadership Summit and Educational Equity webinars, active employee resource groups, community engagement, and the regular review of curriculum for bias and inclusive content.

“University of Phoenix recognizes the need to support programming and a variety of events that provide resources to its students and underrepresented communities,” states John Woods, Ph.D., provost and chief academic officer. “Our collaboration with the Diversity Leadership Alliance is one way we demonstrate our commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive learning environment and workspace.”

DLA exists to bring a voice to marginalized communities, provide a forum for constructive dialogue, and eradicate racism through strategic professional development workshops. Together, with its business and community partners, it enhances the workplace and highlights the value of diversity as an essential part of any successful business model. DLA promotes the understanding that organizations which understand and value diversity and inclusion can attract and retain top talent and position themselves competitively in the larger employment marketplace.

"Our dynamic partnership with the University of Phoenix helps ensure marginalized communities are seen, heard, and valued,” shares Joanna de’Shay, Executive Director of Diversity Leadership Alliance. “We align with the tenants of the University of Phoenix and celebrate the innovative ways they invest in DEI in the Community, and we are honored to be one of their chosen partners. Collectively, we can amplify the voices of our diverse communities and make them feel a sense of belonging and worthiness in the fight for equity.”

The Conference is one of the ways in which DLA actively engages the community in promoting professional development, inclusive workplace best practices, and the need to integrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging as a fundamental element of organizational design. University of Phoenix supports the attendance of faculty and staff.
