**PHOENIX, December 20, 2016**—University of Phoenix today announced the election of Hinrich Eylers, Ph.D., P.E., executive dean of the School of Advanced Studies, to the Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates (JAG) Board of Directors. JAG, an affiliate of Jobs for America’s Graduates, helps high school students stay in school and provides them with leadership and vocational skills necessary to be successful in their careers following graduation.

“Dr. Eylers’ unwavering commitment to the students at University of Phoenix and in the Arizona community overall makes him an ideal board member,” said Graciela Candia, president of Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates. “His energy, expertise and experience will be a valuable asset to our organization and the students we serve.”

In the past 30 years, JAG has helped nearly 30,000 students stay in school, pursue post-secondary education and secure quality entry-level jobs leading to career advancement opportunities. Today, JAG has 25 programs in Arizona schools serving more than 1,200 students.

“Throughout its three decades of operation, JAG has helped thousands of young people stay focused on their education,” said Dr. Eylers. “Ensuring the success of those pursuing their educational goals is a worthwhile effort, and I look forward to working with Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates.”

University of Phoenix works with JAG to help ensure the success of Arizona’s youth during and after high school through a variety of career and college exploration opportunities. As part of this partnership, a handful of students are selected each year to sharpen their leadership training by participating in the University of Phoenix Leads Program. As part of the program, University of Phoenix employees donate their time to mentor students.

Dr. Eylers holds an engineering physics degree from Technische Universität München in Germany, an MBA from the Keller School of Management at DeVry University, and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in environmental engineering sciences from the California Institute of Technology. At University of Phoenix, Dr. Eylers has held several leadership roles, including associate provost, and is a key advocate for expanding university-wide projects to aid student learning. His appointment to the JAG Board of Directors reflects another step in a long career of preparing students for successful, enriching careers.
