By University of Phoenix
It’s no secret that traditional four-year universities are not designed for nontraditional learners. Fortunately, University of Phoenix has been fulfilling this need since 1976. Working adults with full-time jobs, families or military service have often been excluded from higher education, but the University makes it possible for just about anyone to receive their education.
As an institution, University of Phoenix is specifically focused on the success of adult students. For over 40 years, the University has offered flexible options designed for the modern realities of work, life and study.
Whether you’ve always dreamed of finishing your degree or you want to enhance further your career with a certificate, University of Phoenix is a well-known institution that serves its learners first. Let’s dig into what this national university is best known for.
University of Phoenix is known for its commitment to diversity, its remote-first learning model, its tuition guarantee, and its sustainability initiatives.
The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings listed University of Phoenix as a Top Performer on Social Mobility in its 2022 rankings. Out of 439 institutions, University of Phoenix ranked at #160, beating out traditional institutions including Arizona State University which came in at #168. The U.S. News & World Report calculated the rankings based primarily on the graduation rates of Pell Grant recipients., who come from low-income backgrounds. They also looked at how well University of Phoenix supported social mobility through its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).
University of Phoenix’s President’s Advisory Council on DEIB promotions inclusion, culture and belonging at the University as well as in communities around the world. It also identifies opportunities for underserved students. The University’s Office of Educational Equity (OEE) also provides resources and opportunities to a diverse student base. It hosts monthly Educational Equity webinars, the Inclusive Café and the Inclusive Leadership Summit and Career Fair in an effort to promote DEIB.
University of Phoenix is known for its remote-friendly approach to learning. In early 2022, the University announced a teach out effort that will phase out most of its physical campuses. However, University of Phoenix will keep its main campus in Phoenix, Arizona, which will continue to offer in-person instruction for select degree paths.
University of Phoenix made the change in response to student preferences. Since an overwhelming majority of University students prefer remote learning, University of Phoenix altered its plans to keep up with shifting student expectations.
With the teach out program, the University is allowing students who signed up for in-person classes to complete the program they signed up for in the way they expected. In-person is no longer an option for incoming students.
The price of a college education is skyrocketing nationally. But in spite of the pandemic and economic uncertainty, University of Phoenix continues to provide its Tuition Guarantee®.
Since 2018, the tuition guarantee has protected students from increasing tuition costs. The guarantee allows students to lock in their tuition for the duration of their degree program. University of Phoenix undergraduate credits cost are competitive, which makes its degree programs accessible to more learners. To learn more about the cost of attendance, visit phoenix.edu.
“At University of Phoenix, our commitment to providing accessible, equitable education to diverse audiences begins with our tuition guarantee,” stated John Woods, Ph.D., provost and chief academic officer. “Our practices provide transparency and empower our students as they plan their educational and career pathways. Our priority is and will continue to be how to best serve nontraditional adult students who are seeking a flexible, supportive environment in which they can expand and enhance their skill sets and achieve their professional and personal goals.”
University of Phoenix is also known for its investment in sustainability. Even though it’s a primarily online university, University of Phoenix created two initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.
University of Phoenix teamed up partnered with ER2, a disposal company that specializes in safely and securely disposing of electronics. Since very few electronics are disposed of properly, this measure helps divert harmful waste from landfills. In fact, since starting this partnership in 2020, University of Phoenix and ER2 have diverted well over 1 million pounds of e-waste.
“Our Code of Ethics gives us a strong directive to be responsible environmental stewards,” stated Claudiu Budurlean, MBA, senior IT director. “ER2 provided us with the ability to meet our regulatory standards for secure disposal as well as the opportunities to reduce our environmental footprint and give back to our student community where the need is greatest.”
University of Phoenix also worked with ER2 to donate refurbished and donated laptops to students in need. ER2 gives the University a credit for decommissioned devices, which the University uses to donate equipment to students in need. To date, ER2 and University of Phoenix have donated over $50,000 worth of devices to students. With well over 200 devices given to students, the University has been able to avoid landfill waste and give much-needed resources to the people who need them the most.
