Abstract

Recognizing the unique challenges facing Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian tribal students, the University of Phoenix created a dedicated team to coordinate with tribal leaders, help students navigate the tribal and enterprise funding process, and personally support students to increase low academic success.

Patrick Horning, MBA, Ed.D., is National Tribal Strategic Alliance Executive at University of Phoenix, where he oversees all relationships between the university and the tribal communities serviced, including the Tribal Operations Team that exclusively support University of Phoenix tribal students. He develops and coordinates tribal business alliances as well as strategies that have achieved an exceptional retention and progression rate for tribal students. Patrick oversees a solutions based team that works with more than 570 Hawaiian, Native American, American Indian, Alaska Native tribes and communities throughout the United States and Canada on academic success and retention.
