The course builds upon previous courses and focuses on psychotherapeutic interventions and theories that are utilized by the advanced practice psychiatric nurse in planning, implementing and evaluating the care of adults and children with mental disorders. The clinical component focuses the nurse practitioner student on primary assessment and diagnostic skills needed to determine the appropriate individual, family, and/or group therapy for the care of adults and children with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders.

Applies and /or refers for evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions for patients with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders across the lifespan.

Collaboration

Collaborates with an interprofessional team to develop a comprehensive plan of care for the patient with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders across the lifespan.

Psychiatric Diagnosis

Integrates scientific knowledge and context to establish neuro/psychiatric diagnoses appropriate to age and developmental stage.

Clinical Assessment

Performs a comprehensive assessment of the patient's chief complaints related to neuropsychiatric/mental disorders appropriate to age and developmental stage.
