The course builds on previous courses and has an emphasis on the care of patients with psychiatric symptoms across the lifespan (i.e., children, adults, and geriatric). The clinical component focuses the nurse practitioner student on primary diagnostic and assessment skills needed to determine appropriate therapies for patients with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders.

Evaluate Outcomes

Evaluates outcomes and revises treatment plans for patients with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders across the lifespan.

Treat Mental Disorders

Applies and/or refers for evidence-based self-care management, psychotherapy, and/or psychopharmacology in the treatment of neuropsychiatric/mental disorders across the lifespan.

Plan Care

Leads and/or collaborates with an interprofessional team to develop an inclusive and comprehensive plan of care for patients diagnosed with neuropsychiatric/mental disorders across the lifespan.

Formulate Diagnosis

Formulates neuropsychiatric/mental disorder diagnoses for patients across the lifespan using diverse sources of evidence to include the clinical history, sociocultural, psychological, and biological factors.

Assessment

Demonstrates a comprehensive approach to the assessment of the patient with neuropsychiatric complaints across the lifespan.

Prevent Mental Disorders

Applies knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to advance primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of neuropsychiatric disorders across the lifespan.
