University of Phoenix Continues Tuition Guarantee

By Michele Mitchum

Transparent tuition rates help students navigate the challenges of college costs

Having served working adult learners for decades, University of Phoenix understands the challenges of juggling school, work and life. In 2018, the University established a tuition guarantee for incoming students to provide certainty about costs. The tuition guarantee provides transparency about costs by locking in tuition for the duration of a degree program.

College costs have continued to rise. In 2023-24, the average published tuition and fee price is 2.09 times as high as it was 30 years ago at public four-year institutions. On top of rising costs for higher education, between 1990 and 2020, inequity for family incomes increased. The average income increased by 65% for the top quintile of families and by 27% for the lowest quintile of families, after adjusting for inflation.

"Our commitment to accessible, career-relevant, and equitable education is underscored by our tuition guarantee, a fundamental element of our accessible educational framework,” states University of Phoenix Chief Financial Officer Blair Westblom. “The tuition guarantee serves as a cornerstone, fostering transparency for students as they navigate their educational trajectories. Our suite of tools, including the Savings Explorer, are designed to meet the unique needs of non-traditional, adult learners, providing them with innovative ways to save time and money while achieving their professional and personal goals."

In addition to the tuition guarantee, the Savings Explorer® tool presents information about scholarship opportunities, as well as transferring college credit and earning credit for prior learning through Prior Learning Assessment, national testing programs, alternative credit providers, and military service. By answering a few simple questions via the Savings Explorer tool, prospective students can find out what other students with relevant experience have saved.

Additionally, University of Phoenix offers generous credit transfer possibilities. On average, University of Phoenix students saved about $11,000 and eliminated one year off their undergraduate degree with eligible transfer credits and relevant work experience.

University of Phoenix also continues to develop and implement tools designed to help students save time and money, as part of its commitment to working adult learners. Focused on delivering value, the University understands that even amidst rising costs for college students, college graduates still generate higher earnings than the average U.S. worker.

Finally, the University’s skills-mapped curriculum helps ensure that students are identifying and acquiring skills in weeks, rather than years, yielding value sooner from their education as they progress through courses rather than just at the point of graduation. University of Phoenix offers a  skills-mapped curriculum, with 100 percent of associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs open for new enrollment fully skills-mapped. University of Phoenix has issued over 430,000 badges since September 2021, for skills obtained in undergraduate, graduate, and professional development courses.

University of Phoenix graduates have access to the Career Services for Life® commitment, helping to ensure the tools, resources, and support needed to thrive in their career of choice.
