### College Level Examination Program CLEP

For a nominal fee, undergraduate students can take the [College Level Examination Program](https://clep.collegeboard.org/) (CLEP). You can earn college-level credit for knowledge you’ve gained outside the classroom.

Getting a satisfactory score on any of the 34 available CLEP examinations can help facilitate undergraduate degree completion.

The _DSST™_ credit by Exam Program (formerly DANTES), offered in 38 subject areas, allows you to earn college credit for knowledge you’ve gained through on-the-job training, professional development or other life experiences. You can take these tests, along with the CLEP, at many of our campus locations.

### Berlitz® Language Evaluations

_Berlitz_® is a worldwide company offering a variety of language instruction programs and services. _Berlitz _Language Evaluations are 90 minutes in duration. The testing evaluates the language proficiency level of the candidate in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The University of Phoenix Office of Admissions determines the amount of credit awarded, based on the official evaluation results. The credits are applicable to the Communication Arts General Education area.

University of Phoenix students around the world must contact the Phoenix, Arizona _Berlitz _Language Center to arrange taking the _Berlitz _Language Evaluations. ### What are CLEP exams?

CLEP exams allow students with prior knowledge of introductory college topics the opportunity to take an exam demonstrating their mastery rather than taking the class itself. The overall purpose of CLEP exams is to reward existing knowledge and make it easier for students to earn college credit.

### Can CLEP exams affect your GPA?

No, CLEP exams are almost always considered pass or fail. Because they don’t receive letter grades, they aren’t factored into your GPA.

### What does testing out of a course mean?

By taking a test from an eligible testing provider you can demonstrate that you are proficient on the content expectations and did not need to take the course.
