National Indian Education Association (NIEA) and University of Phoenix have teamed up to provide educational opportunities to the tribal community while minimizing or eliminating the need for student loan debt. Check with your Participating Entity to confirm your eligibility.  As an associate of a Participating Entity, you may be eligible to have your tuition covered by your tribe or employer. **You could pay less **for your degree, certificate or course.*

### Are employer tuition benefits taxable?

Declarations of tuition reimbursement on income taxes should be reviewed and discussed with a tax professional.

### Can I pursue any field using my tuition assistance?

The employer tuition benefit from University of Phoenix applies to traditional bachelor, master or doctoral degrees. It doesn’t apply to competency-based degrees. Check with your HR department for information on additional tuition benefit.

### When am I eligible for the University of Phoenix employer tuition benefit?

You are eligible after you’ve declared you’re using your benefits in your student platform, MyPhoenix. The declaration must take place before you enroll for your first class.  

### How do I submit work and life experiences for PLA credits?

Submit the PLA through a journal and/or a portfolio of documented training, licenses and third-party certifications. After you’ve completed your application, speak with an Academic Advisor for more information.

## *Terms and Conditions

**Eligibility **

The University of Phoenix (University) and National Indian Education Association (NIEA) have an Agreement in place to offer certain tuition benefits. There must be an Addendum to the Agreement in place with Participating Entities for Associates to receive the tuition benefits set forth below (hereinafter referred to as the “Benefits”).

The University will provide the following Benefits to Associates defined as (i) any person who is in some way associated with a Participating Entity but is not necessarily a registered member; (ii) individuals who work for a Participating Entity but are not registered members; (iii) are a Participating Entity tribal member; or (iv) eligible to apply for a Participating Entity corporate scholarship dedicated to serving the tribal communities, who enroll in the University.

Participating Entities include Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian communities or any entity or organization that provides some education funding assistance to Associates who have an Addendum to the Agreement in place.

**Eligibility**

To be eligible for the Benefits, Associates must remain associated with the Participating Entity and (ii) must maintain attendance with the University defined as not taking a break longer than 365 days.

Benefits will apply to eligible Associates after the student has disclosed their appropriate affiliation with Participating Entity within the University’s Student Portal (eCampus). If an Associate is currently enrolled in the University prior to the Effective Date and already disclosed their employer on eCampus, the Associate will be required to select the appropriate Participating Entity’s name in eCampus in order to receive the Benefits. After selection, the Benefits set forth herein will apply after the Effective Date of this Agreement upon enrollment in the next course.

The Benefits will apply to Associates who are receiving the standard University tuition rate and cannot be combined with any Alumni or Associate Transfer tuition rates, competency-based programs such as the MBA-CB program or other competency-based programs the University may offer in its discretion, any other University offer or promotion or any other specific program exclusions set forth in the Academic Catalog.  

Associates are subject to the University's admission and academic policies and procedures.

**Undergraduate Courses**

Associates may take up to eight (8) courses within any one Benefit Term for a tuition cap of $5,250 per Benefit Term. Any courses over eight (8) in a Benefit Term will be charged at the then current tuition rate for the undergraduate degree program billed in accordance with the applicable Addendum for the Participating Entity.

**Master’s Courses**

Associates may take up to five (5) courses within any one Benefit Term for a total tuition cap of $5,250 per Benefit Term. Any courses over five (5) in a Benefit Term will be charged at the then current tuition rate for the master’s degree program and will be billed in accordance with the applicable Addendum.

**Doctoral Courses**

Associates may take up to three (3) Doctoral courses within any one Benefit Term for a total tuition cap of $5,250 per Benefit Term. Any courses over three (3) in a Benefit Term will be charged at the then current tuition rate for the doctoral degree program and will be billed in accordance with the applicable Addendum.

**Resource Fees (electronic course material fees and books)**

Associates who enroll in any College of Education, College of Health Professions, College of Nursing, and counseling programs from the College of Social and Behavior Sciences, the University will waive resource fees on certificates, associates, bachelors, masters, and doctoral courses until program completion.

**Billing**

Taking more courses than the maximum allotted amount for each tuition cap in a Benefit Term will result in additional tuition charges. Please check with your Participating Entity for further information regarding your billing options and payment details with respect to the Benefits.

Please note: For students using VA benefits, certifying VA benefits for any reason in conjunction with your university alliance benefit will use a month of entitlement.

**Term and Termination**

If the Agreement or a Participating Entity’s Addendum is terminated Benefits will immediately cease and will no longer be available to Associates. Associates enrolled in the University as of the termination date will be responsible for payment of all fees and tuition costs (at the then current tuition rate) for their next course and the remainder of their program in accordance with University financial policies and procedures.
