0:00 hey there I'm University of Phoenix 0:01 graduate Dr Debbie RAM and I'll be 0:03 taking you through a day in my life as a 0:05 co-founder of hackathon Jr our story 0:07 actually starts in 2017 when I was a 0:10 doctoral student at University of 0:11 Phoenix there I met my business partners 0:13 Dr Rose Lorenzo Dr Katie pirata and Neil 0:16 morados together we collaborated to 0:18 found hackathon Jr which I researched 0:20 for my dissertation on how hackathons 0:23 with young students might encourage 0:24 computational thinking skills as well as 0:27 important social skills we've translated 0:28 our school project into a real nonprofit 0:31 organization and hosted our 16th 0:33 hackathon Junior of this past February 0:36 by tasking students to solve a real 0:37 world problem using technology they're 0:39 able to build crucial skills it's been 0:41 incredible to see what started as a 0:43 research project Gloom into this kind of 0:45 event and to see kids who start the day 0:47 as strangers learn to work together and 0:49 build the skills I researched in my 0:51 dissertation everything we do here at 0:54 hackathon Jr would not be possible if we 0:56 hadn't met at the University of Phoenix
