This course prepares K-12 educators to use effective instructional techniques, methodology, and assessments for English language learners (ELLs). Participants apply researched theory focusing on sheltered instruction, particularly the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP®) Model. Instructional techniques for teaching students of limited English proficiency, including instruction in the English language and development of the student's mastery of the language skills of reading, writing, and listening/speaking, differentiated instruction, lesson comprehension, integration and use of English language standards, special education, and parental involvement as related to English language learners are also explored.
This course is not available for enrollment to residents of Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
Effective 1/1/20, the University of Phoenix (UOPX) is no longer an approved TESOL program provider in the state of New Mexico. Individuals enrolling in UOPX TESOL courses will NOT satisfy course requirements for the NM TESOL endorsement.
