This course prepares learners to design and deliver instruction for students with disabilities who require an adapted curriculum. Learners apply methods for providing access to the general curriculum based on individual student characteristics and needs, including modifications, adaptations, specialized instructional strategies, and research-based interventions. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based literacy, mathematics instruction, assessment and progress monitoring, assistive and instructional technologies, alternative and augmentative communication, and strategies that promote student learning and independence. Learners also examine alignment with state academic standards and assessments and collaboration across educational settings to support access, participation, and progress in the curriculum.
